History

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture began as grassroots project of Appalachian State University's Center for Appalachian Studies in 2003.

We obtained our 501 (c) 3 status in 2004 in order to advance our organization's mission and create positive change in our community surrounding agriculture. Through the efforts of BRWIA, women and their families have had the opportunity to advance toward agricultural sustainability, improve their economic status, and battle social inequities. We strive to provide educational opportunities and resources to producers and consumers of locally, sustainably grown food, as we recognize that a vibrant regional food system relies on the participation of every person to thrive.
