Join Trosly Farm & Extension Livestock Agent, Eddy Labus, for this one-of-a-kind educational opportunity. Trosly Farm poultry is then processed directly on the farm for direct sale.
Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) is now accepting farmer applications for the 2013 High Country Farm Tour. The tour will feature Watauga, Ashe, and Caldwell County farms on August 3 and 4 from 2:00-6:00 pm. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 10.
“This is a great opportunity for new and well established farms to make life-long customers, share their story, and educate about their land and growing practices,” said Courtney Baines, BRWIA Director of Programs. While the tour provides opportunities for consumers to see where their food comes from, its primary purpose is to increase farm revenue by providing an outlet for on-farm sales and helping farmers expand their customer base. Farmers who participate in the farm tour also receive a one-year complimentary Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) membership. Last year, the High Country Farm Tour featured 22 participating farms in Ashe, Watauga, and Caldwell counties and attracted more than 500 farm visitors. This year, BRWIA plans to build upon last year’s success by increasing advertising and programming. Participating farmers will be encouraged to attend the workshop, “Making the Most of the Farm Tour,” designed to boost on-farm sales, secure long-term customers and develop marketing tools. Interested farmers should apply on-line at http://farmtour.brwia.org or contact Courtney Baines courtney@brwia.org with questions. Connect with local farmers, get your hands dirty, and have tons of fun! Join Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture for our March Farm Work Day at Woodland Harvest Mountain Farm in West Jefferson. We will help with garden work and bioshelter construction as well as tour their dynamic, off-grid farm and learn the many sustainability principles employed on this one-of-a-kind farm.
*You can also meet out at the farm at 12:30.
