Intern Testimonials

"Looking back on my internship experience with BRWIA I would do it again in a heartbeat. Everyone I worked with or met while on the job were so friendly and sweet. Not only did I get to meet with such an amazing group of people I also got to improve my people skills by getting to know people within the community. BRWIA does an awesome job getting involved in the community. And with my experience working at the Food Hub and the King Street Farmers Market I was able to feel more connected within the Boone Community. I will definitely be able to use the skills I have gained from this internship in my future career and will never forget this amazing experience. "

I loved my internship with BRWIA! I learned so much about this organization and all of the wonderful services it strives to provide for its community. It is rooted in ideas of sustainability and supporting and empowering women. From it's beginning, BRWIA has said "Women ARE farmers." and has since worked to support and empower local female farmers as well as strengthening the local food system. As a women who wants to be a farmer, the fact that this organization simply exists provides me with solidarity! I really loved my time here and the staff is a great group of smart kind people. I've learned so much about how nonprofits function, how to support our local food system, how to empower and support female farmers, teach kids in the garden, how to raise funds to keep programs sustainable and so much more. Interning with BRWIA was an informative, relaxed, fun and supportive experience where your interests and opinions are valued!

"Interning with BRWIA allowed me to give back to my community while also learning incredible business/non-profit management skills! I would recommend this internship to anybody, this is such an incredible organization."

"Interning with BRWIA I have been given a multifaceted opportunity into how the non profit world operates. BRWIA does so much for our community and I really have learned so much through each of the programs that I have worked with. I have more direction on what I want to personally and professionally pursue then I did before my internship."

"To me, my internship at BRWIA has allowed me to learn about wonderful opportunities and services in the community I live in, which previously I was not aware about but now has opened me up to a whole other side of the Boone community that I want to be a part of. "
~ Shannon Donnelly, Community of Gardens Intern, Summer 2018

“Interning with BRWIA allowed me to become more rooted in this community and taught me the effort it takes to keep a nonprofit up and running. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.”

"BRWIA is the most unique and passionate organization I have ever worked with, dedicated to meeting community needs and establishing long-term positive relationships. During my time interning at the [high country food hub], I established more community connections and learned more about what it takes to serve this area than I did during my time in school. The women leading this organization are truly inspirational."
