Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture Launches Founding Mother's Legacy Campaign to Increase Investment in the High Country Local Food System

4/17/2019

We spent this past winter holding focus groups and interviewing stakeholders in an effort to make sure our organization is meeting our community’s current needs. That work resulted in an impressive local food system map and a new direction for our organization.

We are excited to share with you the future goals and strategy that we came up with based on the thorough community assessment we conducted.
OUR NEW VISION
We envision an equitable and sustainable High Country food system where producers are thriving and local food is accessible to all

OUR NEW MISSION STATEMENT

To build an equitable and sustainable High Country local food system by supporting producers and cultivating community connections that inspire, educate, and increase demand for local food.
Picture
As an organization founded and led by women, we continue to celebrate and uplift the diversity of voices who are dedicated to growing and eating high quality local food. Just as our founding mothers intended, our work remains focused on strengthening the local food system by serving all people.

To continue the legacy of our founding mothers, our work has resulted in:
  • Building the first-of-its-kind Food Hub, unlike anything else in our region.
  • New markets so that established and beginning farmers have opportunities to connect with customers, increase income, and expand operations.
  • Thousands of dollars donated to Double Up Food Bucks so families relying on food stamps can bring home better food from farmers’ markets.
  • Efforts to build and support school gardens so that children will understand where their food comes from.
Our ability to continue this much needed food system work depends on you.
We are seeing a national trend of decreased support for programs that help small family farms. Our ability to fill that gap depends on donations from caring community members like you.

Why give to Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture?
  • Every donated dollar directly supports our innovative and impactful programming such as the Food Hub as demonstrated to the right.
  • 48% of our total operating budget comes from public contributions.
  • 88% of our total operating budget goes towards direct program support.
  • All donations are tax-deductible.
Can we count on you to continue the legacy of our founding mothers and ensure the future of farming in the High Country?

Please help us reach our Legacy Campaign goal of $20,000 by this Mothers Day, May 12th.

All donations made to the Founding Mother's Legacy Campaign can be made in honor of a special mother/woman/leader who has made a positive impact on your life or in the community. We will be highlighting these impactful women and leaders throughout the month of May on this page and social media.
